Medical Services

Every resident has the right to receive appropriate medical care by a general practitioner of their choice.

Doctors visit their patients at Trevu either weekly, fortnightly or as required. Doctors will attend emergencies on a 24 hour basis. Residents requiring further emergency treatment will be transferred to hospital.

If your doctor prior to admission is unable to attend Trevu, we will assist you to select another doctor of your choice. When making a choice of general practitioner, please ensure that the doctor and their practice concerned does provide 24 hour cover.

We request all visiting doctors to bulk bill their patients to avoid a gap being charged to residents.

Physiotherapy

A consulting physiotherapist visits Trevu to advise and assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of residents care plans and also trains and advises staff in how to safely manage residents mobility. If personal physiotherapy services are requested by residents, the physiotherapist may separately charge the resident for these services.

Podiatry

A podiatrist visits Trevu every four weeks and attends to resident’s basic foot care needs and advises on development, implementation and evaluation of residents care plans.

Chemist

Pharmaceutical items for residents are supplied by the chemist of their choice, however, the majority of residents choose the chemist used by Trevu. The chemist account will be debited to the nursing home account, as Trevu pays the account on behalf of all residents to the chemist used by the Home. If the resident chooses a different chemist, the resident and or their family will need to make arrangements for the chemist to deliver medications, pick up prescriptions and pay the account.

Optometrist

Residents can arrange to see an optometrist of their choice. If Trevu is to arrange these services, it is done through a local optometrist in Gawler following consultation with the resident and or their representative. Medicare covers the consultation fee and the Government partly pays for the cost of frames and lenses for pensioners.

Dentist

Residents can arrange to see a dentist of their choice. If Trevu is to arrange dental services for the resident, it is arranged through the Lyell McEwin Dental Clinic who provide Home visits. There is also a local dental clinic who will perform minor repairs to dentures.

All dentists used by Trevu provide subsidised services to pensioners.
